Blog of the Day- December 17, 2008

December 17th, 2008

Today’s blog of the day is an easy one.  To be honest I haven’t read all of my usual blog list.  I simply saw the title of this post and knew it was the pick of today.  I’ve only been following Brian St. Pierre’s blog for a few weeks now but it is generally pretty top notch.  Check out today’s post:

Blog of the Day December 15&16

December 17th, 2008

This week Joe Kenn and the team from the University of Louisville paid Zach Even-Esh a visit at his Underground Strength Gym, and of course Zach caught it all on film.  Episodes 78 and 79 make up todays (and yesterdays) blog of the day.

To learn more about Zach’s insane methods, check out his Underground Strength Manual.

New Fitcast episode

December 17th, 2008

Hi all,

Apologies for being a bit slack, but I’ve been busy as anything of late.  This is a few days late but Kevin at TheFitCast has just uploaded episode 115.  It’s well worth a listen.  Check it out here.

Week in Review: Week ending 13/12/08

December 14th, 2008

In the lead up to the holidays and the inevitable over-eating and subsequent New Year resolutions, the fitness world has been put into overdrive.  That said, web based content is drying up as people become time poor (myself included).  As a result this week in review will be short.  If you think I’ve missed anything, please add it to the comments below.

The biggest news of the week was without a doubt the release of the Team EliteFTS 2008 Holiday Tips ebook by Dave Tate and the team at Elitefts.  100% of proceeds (that’s right proceeds, NOT profits) go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation®.  According to Elitefts:

“Team EliteFTS 2008 Holiday Tips contains 137 tips to get through the holidays with relatives, no gym, commercial gyms, holiday food and parties. This also includes 10 workout programs and one Circa-Max Raw Bench Press Program to peak your bench before the new year. As always you will find our usual EliteFTS humor scattered throughout the manual. “.

I purchased the book within seconds of seeing it listed and to honest, wouldn’t have cared if it was rubbish given it was for charity.  That said, the product is first-class all the way.  For more info click here.  Oh, and even though this is an ebook, spend the $10 and buy it.  It’s for a good cause.

During the week Zach Even-Esh and AJ Roberts held a free teleseminar.  You can catch a replay here.

Controversy of the week is yet another case of “forgetting to cite sources” by one of the bigger fitness websites.  I’m not going to use the P-word, as I’m not 100% sure that is the case, but surely someone could fact check the articles.  It is also not the job of the reader to provide evidence of ‘citing oversights’, and surely a company as large as the sites parent company could afford to get someone to check the information.  I’m also not prepared to put this issue on the author as the site has been known to change article content without the author’s knowledge or consent.  This matter is far less serious than previous incidents in the last 12 months, but surely it is time for everybody to lift there game in this department.  Anyone who has passed high school should know how to cite a reference.

Annoyance of the week: Web sites that either load slowly or fail to load.  It’s bothered me for a long time.  I stopped my membership at strengthcoach.com due to the incredibly slow loading times it took (hopefully it’s better now).  For about 2 weeks I’ve been trying to visit a particular strength coach’s blog.  The page has never loaded.  Frustrating.

As I said, I’m keeping this week short, next week’s review will be a full review covering articles and blogs as well as everything else.

Video of the Week: 13/12/08

December 14th, 2008

This was a fairly easy choice this week.  Content appears to be drying up as people get busier heading into the holidays.  Zach Even-Esh’s Underground Strength Show is always in the running as it is one of, if not THE most entertaining thing on the net (or at least starring guys from Edison, NJ).  This week however Zach went a little ‘R’ rated and while I enjoyed the episodes, they may not be to everyone’s taste.

So in the end, this week’s Video of the Week goes to the Diesel Crew.  Watch the video below and if you’d like to learn more about the training methods of Jim Smith and the Diesel Crew check out Combat Core, one of the best resources available for athletes from all sports.
